Homemade Whole Wheat Tortillas

Tortillas are something that we eat a lot of in our house.  We have some sort of Mexican recipe (usually tacos or fajitas) at least once a week.  And it was easy to find really tasty whole wheat tortillas in my local grocery store when my diet "changed" it just isn't easy to find these in local restaurants, so we usually have Mexican night at home!
I've been wanting to make my own tortillas for a long time but was concerned about how difficult it would be or worried that they wouldn't taste like a 'real' tortilla. 

Wll, again, I was wrong! They were SO easy to make and incredibly delicious.  This is another easy way to cut even more processed foods out of our diet and make them homemade.  And whenever possible I plan to make these part of our weekly menu plan.
I hope you take the time to try this recipe and make your own!  Now I can't wait to plan a Mexican fiesta style dinner party with friends to share these babies!

They look great! I also make homemade tortillas (the ones they have here are absolutely terrible) and use this recipe:

You can make them whole wheat too and they only have about 1/8 of the fat. I've had several roommates with Hispanic mothers who always gave us homemade tortillas and that recipe is really just as good as the "real" lard ones. :)

But then again, the whole wheat ones aren't. Maybe I'll give this recipe a try but it's so much oil! We'll see. :)

Hi Erin! Thanks for the suggestion! Yes, it does sound like a lot of oil, but I made about 20 tortillas (mine were much smaller than Lisa's) so it wasn't too bad. I'll have to try your recipe too!
