12 Days of Treats: Gingerbread Houses (Day 5)

Even the best made plans sometimes just don't work out....

My plan was to show you another delicious cookie recipe today...but I'm working a huge event this weekend and just didn't make it into my kitchen (at all).  So, instead as a concession prize, I will give you the ultimate in holiday treats! This recipe calls for as much sugar and white flour as you want, whatever candy you want, and tons of sugary icing...but you can't eat it!  (well, you could, but why would you want to?)
I know, sort of a mean trick and I know you are saying "what! a delicious and mouth watering recipe for something I can't eat!"  Yes! Put down your pitch-forks and take a deep breath....this is one of my favorite holiday traditions and one I know you will love and thank me for later!  Plus, I've give you lots of treats (and more to come) that you can eat while you make your own gingerbread house!
My girlfriends and I started making these houses a few Christmas's ago.  Now it is one of my holiday traditions that I look forward to each year!  We each purchase our own kit and bring a bottle of wine....and ta-da!  Then we have a beautiful (well, sometimes) holiday treat that instead of eating will decorate our homes for the season.

So go buy a kit (almost all grocery stores and drug stores sell them) and have a party!  Use all the sugar you want!  This is one time you don't have to limit yourself :)
From our party to yours, Happy Holidays!
