Apple-Jack Burgers

So, we now have a ton of applesauce made...what should we do with it...? Of course, most of it will be eaten as is :) but maybe there is more that can be done with it?

I credit the idea for this recipe to my wonderful hubby! My hubby's family (yes, most of you know this already) owns a burger joint so burgers are in his blood. But he gets creative with his burgers and put this one together all on his own (I'm so proud that my recipe bug has bitten him!)! I give you the Apple-Jack Burger!
Wow, he is good! This one is delicious!! And of course, so simple!

First, make your patties. We used ground beef. This would be delicious with ground chicken, ground turkey or (yum) a black bean burger or veggie burger. We topped our patties very simply with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper then put them on the grill. Cook your burger to desired doneness (ours cooked about 2-3 minutes per side on medium-high heat and came out medium-well). Then comes the assembly, the fun part!

First you'll need a whole wheat bun (read the ingredients people, needs to be 100%!) Then add the burger, top with monterrey jack cheese (the JACK) and your homemade applesauce, then lettuce, tomato and any other toppings you like on your burger. We kept ours really simple...no need for mayo, mustard, ketchup (although you can if you use the low sugar kind) or pickles...we wanted that delicious homemade applesauce to come out and moisten the burger.
WOW, my hubby is good! Moist, juicy, slightly sweet (from the apple's natural sweetness) and I love the cinnamon kick with the beef which reminds me of Mediterranean or Indian cooking. These were delicious! Enjoy!
What are your favorite burger toppings? Let me know in the comments section, I may try your burger next!
